This particular abstract series called “Memories” came about in deep mid-winter when I was leaning into the concepts of rest and hibernation. As I quiteted both body and mind, a series of memories floated through my consciousness and I began to think about how ethereal memories are. They are nebulous, hazy, sure, far away, and close all at the same time. It’s easy to get lost in the feelings of memories and I wanted to find a way to express these layered feelings through my art.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that in 2020 I painted mostly abstracts. It was a very cathartic time for me; it was a therapeutic release during the early days of the pandemic as well as when I experienced a medical emergency that developed into PTSD. It was the way I worked through my emotions during turbulent times.  I hadn’t painted in quite a while and I loved being able to paint out my feelings without needing it to look representational. There was freedom in that period of my artmaking.

This series is meant to convey the subtle layering and  textural changes one goes through when encountering their memories. There is a rich, deep well of emotion here; a sense of oneness and peace and wholeness.
